Motýli Šumperk
The
Children's Choir of Šumperk was founded in 1962. Conducted by its founder Alois Motýl,
the choir underwent a sharp development.

His son Tomáš Motýl is continuing his work with the choir at the present time.
The art of the choir was appreciated by numerous awards from both domestic and foreign
competitions. The choir also took part in a lot of international choir festivals.
Today the Children's Choir of Šumpersk is a well organized choir school which is
a part of the Art School and the House of Children and Youth - Villa Doris of Šumperk.
Around 260 children, aged six to eighteen years, sing there in four separate choirs.
The most advanced of them, forming a concert choir of eighty singers, are presented
as "Motýli Šumperk" (Butterflies of Šumperk) both at home and abroad.
The repertoire of the choir comprises a wide scale of music from ancient times up to
now, as well as lots of folk songs of nations living all over the world.
THE CHILDREN'S CHOIR OF ŠUMPERK supports the development of choral singing in the region.
Since 1972 the choir has organized "THE GOLDEN LYRE", a festival of school choirs,
including seminars for choir masters.
The choir also initiated and organized seven years of the international festival
of children's choirs named "THE COUNTRY OF SINGING" from 1989 to 2001.
